What we do
When you commission a couture creation from Jocelyn Banks, the process is as personal and joyful as the final creation itself.
Jocelyn’s work is defined by its ‘bespoke structure’ designed to perfectly contour the body – a skill mastered over many years in the industry.
Today Jocelyn brings that same level of expert problem-solving and precision to her own work from her studio in Gloucestershire. She specialises in creating pieces that are unique, personal and unconventional, listening to your story to create a bespoke piece that reflects your personality while celebrating your style and shape. Every gown, suit, corset and outfit is meticulously crafted with care, precision and artistry that feels as incredible as it looks.
The couture journey
The consultation: finding your style
Your journey begins with a free consultation with Jocelyn, either in her studio in Lydney, or virtually if preferred. This is your time to explore. Whether you have a Pinterest board full of ideas for your upcoming occasion or just a vague feeling of what you want, Jocelyn will offer thoughtful guidance, drawing on her many years of experience. Together you will discuss colours, be inspired by a myriad of silks, textures and embellishments and sketch out silhouettes that best celebrate your style and personality.
The design: creating your pattern block and toile
Following your consultation, Jocelyn will take your measurements, refine the design, create mood boards and gather fabric swatches for your approval. It is now that the technical engineering begins. Your bespoke pattern block is drafted using your unique measurements, this is the foundation for the ‘perfect fit’. From this a pattern is created and a toile (a mock-up of a garment made in calico) is made. This allows Jocelyn to sculpt the shape, drape and proportion. This stage is essential in refining the details, ensuring that the finished garment is flawlessly executed.
Fittings and refinements
The fitting is a collaborative process. It ensures that your garment sits perfectly, moves beautifully and feels effortless. Every seam is considered, hemlines lifted, necklines defined. It must be both practical for the occasion and flattering to the eye.
The realisation: bringing the vision to life
With the fit perfected and the pattern refined, we move into the ‘realisation’ phase. This is the heart of the process, where your chosen silks, laces and embellishments are expertly handled in our studio. Moving from the calico toile to the final fabric requires a master’s touch. Whether it’s the structural engineering of an internal corset or the delicate hand-stitching of a ribbon bow on a garter, every detail is intentional and applied with care. This is where your garment truly becomes a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.
The reveal
The final fitting is a moment to celebrate. Your bespoke piece is complete. You aren’t just stepping into your outfit, you are stepping into your story: a couture creation made with intention to fit your body and express your unique personality.
Commissioning a couture piece from Jocelyn Banks is a radical departure from ‘fast fashion’. It is an investment in confidence and a testament to the fact that you deserve a garment as unique as your own thumbprint.
